Nutrient Cycles Flashcards
What happens in the carbon cycle?
Photosynthesis- only way co2 is taken in during the cycle
Resp- plants, animals, bacteria, c6h12o6 + 6o2= 6co2+6h2o (resp)
Feeding-animals eat plants carbon is passed through the food chain
Decomposition- dead+waste(decay) decomposers release co2 (resp)
Combustion - burning fossil fuels release co2 ( fossilisation)
Growth- photo makes starch, protein fats- animals eat = growth
What conditions have to be correct for decomposition to occur?
Suitable temp, soil pH, moisture, food, O2
Not have these conditions- no decomposition= fossilisation
What causes global warming?
Burning fossil fuel
Deforestation
Leads to- climate change, polar caps melting, increase flooding and deserts
What causes the greenhouse effect?
Rise in atmospheric co2
Slowed by alternative fuels and planting trees, less deforestation .
Plan for effects- flood barriers
What are the stages in the hydrological cycle?
Evaporation- sea and reservoirs Condensation- clouds Precipitation- rain Transpiration- trees Water table- through flow, ground water flow, surface run off, interception
