What is an Enrolled Nurse (EN)?
Someone who has completed a 2 year Diploma of Nursing. They work under the supervision of a registered nurse and cannot work alone. Typical duties may be recording TPR, helping patients with ADLs etc
What is a Registered Nurse (RN)?
Someone who has completed a 3 year Bachelor of Nursing. They have more responsibilities than an EN. They can do things like assessing patients, administering medication, leadership roles etc
What are some differences between an RN and an EN?
-EN have two year courses whereas RN have three year courses
-EN have no leadership opportunities whereas RN do
-EN must always work under the supervision of a RN whereas a RN doesn’t have to

What is Heart Rate and what is the normal range?
It s the number of heart beats per minute. The normal range is 60-100bpm.
Where can you take the heart rate?
-Radial (wrist_
-Carotid (neck)
-Ulnar (wrist)
What are the 5 steps for taking a pulse?
- Wash your hands/PPE and introduce yourself to the patient
- Obtain informed consent
- Get patient comfortable. Sitting flat-footed and arm relaxed.
- Using two fingers (not the thumb) find the radial pulse
- Count and multiply
What is Blood Pressure and what is the normal range?
It is the pressure exerted on the arteries. The normal range is 120/80mm Hg
What does Systolic mean?
During ventricular contraction
What does Diastolic mean?
During ventricular relaxation
How do you measure blood pressure?
Using a sphygmomanometer
