- Starting in medication room
Select correct syringe

Select correct needle

Select correct medication from table (CHECK #1)

Select correct medication concentration

Compare medication to MAR (CHECK #2)

Clean vial with alcohol

Inject air into vial

Withdraw correct amount of medication and verify there are no large bubbles. Make sure dose is correct
9.
Recap needle ONE HANDED with no contamination during med prep
- Now in the patient room
Hand hygiene

Introduce self and explain procedure
12.
Open EMR & identify the pt with 2 identifiers - Name & DOB. MUST be looked at EMR while patient verbalizes to be awarded full points.

Confirm allergies

Check medication against MAR again. (CHECK #3)
15.
Provide privacy - pull the curtain
16.
Raise the bed up to a working height for proper body mechanics
17.
Identify site with correct landmarks on the simulator. MUST USE CORRECT ANATOMICAL TERMS

Don gloves
19.
Clean site and let it dry WITHOUT fanning

Hold skin taut
21.
Insert needle, darting, use proper angle
22.
Released pinched skin that was pinched on insertion
23.
Inject med slowly into the injection model
24.
Stabilize the skin while removing the needle
25.
Engage safety (IF THERE IS ONE) and place in sharps. If NO SAFETY, needle goes directly into sharps WITHOUT RECAPPING

Remove gloves
27.
Lower the bed
28.
Perform hand hygiene
