MOA of tramadol (Ultram)
Binds weakly to mu opioid receptors
Inhibits reuptake of both norepi and serotonin
Adverse effects of tramadol
drowsy, dizziness, headache, nausea, constipation, respiratory depression
Rare: Seizures
MOA of gabapentin (Neurontin) & pregablyn (Lyrica) - pronounce
to spontaneously suppress neuronal firing
Adverse effects of gabapentin & pregablyn
drowsy, dizzy, visual problems
Type of NSAIDS
aspirin (ASA), ibuprofen (advil), naproxen (Aleve), ketorolac (Toradol), celecoxib (Celebrex)
MOA of NSAIDS
Anti-prostaglandins
blocks key enzyme: cyclooxygenase (COX)- an enzyme that is crucial to the production of prostaglandins
Adverse Effects of NSAIDS- ASA, ibuprofen, naproxen
GI upset, stomach ulcers, GI bleeding, rash, edema, kidney failure, increases in BP, inhibits platelet aggregation, SOA in asthma patients
Adverse Effects of Celecoxib (Celebrex)
Serious Cardiovascular thrombotic events
NSAIDS Cardiovascular Risk
NSAIDS cause an increased risk of serious cardio thrombotic events, MI, stroke and increase risk for cardiovascular disease
NSAIDS Gastrointestinal Risk
Increased risk of serious GI bleeding, ulcerations and perforation of the stomach or intestines which can be fatal
Aspirin Adverse Effects
n/v, seizures, cerebral edema
chronic- tinnitus/hearing loss
Reye’s Sydrome for kids
NO ASPIRIN
Ketorolac (Toradol)
Post-Op setting to reduce pain and inflammation
Side Effects of Toradol
GI ulcers, high risk of renal dysfunction
MOA of Acetaminophen (Tylenol)
