Director of Nursing
In charge of nursing services (may be called director of patient services, nursing administrator, or vice president of nursing services)

Registered Nurse (RN)
- A graduate of a 4 years college based school of nursing, graduates can further their knowledge and can enroll for further specialized training such as Critical Care, ER, Neonatal, ICU, PACU, etc.
- May give direct patient care or supervise patient care given by others
- Performs all types of treatments and procedures
- Responsible for applying the nursing process. This encompasses the assessment, nursing diagnostic, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care
- Participates in patient/family teaching as well as teaching staff members
Practical Nurse
- Graduate of a 1 ½ - 2 year school of nursing
- Licensed in the Province of which he or she is practicing
- Functions under the direction of the RN
- Gives direct patient care
- Performs technical skills, such as discontinuing IV’s, administering medication to the patient as prescribed by the physician

6 responsibilities of the NUC
- Perform all the non-clinical patient care tasks
- Communicating all new doctor’s orders to the patient’s nurse
- Responsible for the transcribing of doctors’ orders
- Maintaining the patients’ charts
- Placing and receiving doctors’ telephone calls to and from the doctor’s office
- Providing information to the doctors regarding procedures

Licensed Vocational / Practical Nurse
Graduate of a 1-2 year school of nursing
Licensed in the Province of which he or she is practicing
Functions under the direction of the RN
Gives direct patient care
– performs technical skills, such as discontinuing IV’s, administering medication to the patient as prescribed by the physician
Volunteer
Is made up of people from the community
The members of the women’s auxiliary or its counterpart, the men’s auxiliary, give generously of their time and talents to staff the patient library or gift shop
Many perform tasks for various hospital departments or on the nursing unit
High school students also may have an auxiliary organization
