Q

What is central dogma of molecular biology

A

Genetic information is stored in DNA.

Segments of DNA that encode proteins or other functional products are called genes.

Gene sequences are transcribed into messenger RNA (mRNA).

mRNA are translated into proteins that perform most life functions.

Q

How big is major and minor groove

A

Major grooves = 22 A apart

Minor grooves = 12 A apart

Bases exposed in grooves can interact with other molecules: proteins, drugs.

Q

What is DNA annealing

A

The single strands anneal to form dsDNA again when cooled slowly. Annealing temperature depends on length of DNA. Longer strands - higher annealing temp
