how is Luke different from the other two Synoptic Gospels?
Luke is unique because he is the only non-Jewish writer in the N.T. he was probably Greek. this gospel has a sequel in Acts.
Luke is also the longest gospel that covers twenty five percent of the entire N.T.
one big difference is that genealogy of Jesus. he includes the lineage of Mary the mother of Jesus.
and says that Heli is the father of Joseph while matthew says its Jacob.
he also records Mary’s hymns of praise (1:46-55) and Jesus private prayer life. he also focuses on the humanity and compassion of jesus for the outcasts of society.
what is the Synoptic problem?
briefly stated is the attempt to explin how Matthew, Mark,and Luke agree, yet disagree, in these three areas:
1=content
2=wording
3=order
90% of Mark’s material is found in Matthew,
50% of Mark is found in luke
nearly 235 verses in Matthew and Luke are similar to one another.
