NSAIDs Flashcards
What is Aspirin MOA
Non selective COX inhibitor, irreversible effect, suppresses inflammation.
What is COX 1
good cox, helps with mucosal gut lining, plate aggregation, renal blood flow
What is COX 2
bad cox, present at site of inflammation, injury, sensitizes receptors to painful stimuli
What is Aspirins indications
analgesic(relieves pain), antipyretic (reduce fever), anti inflammatory, protects in thrombotic disorders (Ichemic stroke, TIA, MI, angina), suppression of platelet aggregation (clots will not form, blood thinner), dysmenorrhea, renal salt wand water retention.
What is Aspirins contraindication
Smokers, ETOH, hx of PUD, renal patients
What is Aspirins ADRs
Gastric distress (black stool), heartburn, nausea, tinnitus, Reyes syndrome, bleeding, (ulceration and perforation) renal salt and water retention
Patient education for Aspirin
DO no take if pregnant, on anticoagulants or glucosteriods, children SHOULD NOT take aspirin, take with food
What is Ibuprofens MOA
Nonsleective COX inhibitor, suppresses inflammation, reversible
What is Ibuprofen Indication
RA, osteoarthritis, reduce pain, suppress fever, relieve dysmenorrhea(menstruation pain)
What is Ibuprofens ADRs
GI distress( indigestion, stomach aches, diarrhea, stomach ulcers)
Wat is Ibuprofens contraindications
Known hypersensitivity, PUD, Gi bleed
Patient education for Ibuprofen
Black box warnign, take with food to prevent GI distress
What is Celecoxibs MOA
Ony inhibits COX 2 (Selective), this means it will inhibit pain, fever, inflammation
What is Celecoxib Indications
Osteoarthritis, RATE, acute pain, dysmenorrhea, colon polyps
What is Celecoxib ADRs
HTN, renal impairment, edema, LOWER RISK of GI symptoms
