World rejecting–> Sharp break from society, reject trad society, cut off family members, require full commitment and discipline, e.g peoples temple

- social change, people can’t cope with change and choice, need set rules and guidelines, hope community
- deprivation, all the types
- marginality, people unengaged and separate, gives identity, people who don’t conform, emg, w.c
- dissiullsioned with mainstream, prosecution in trad religion,
- relative deprivation, cult sells what you’ve never had, criminals, emg, scientology, better themselves.
