NREMT 1 Flashcards
What is a pulimary embolism
It is a blood clot that travels to pulimary arteries
What is pneumonia and what are the signs and symptoms?
It is an infection of the lower respiratory tract causing lung inflammation and fluid filled alveoli.
Signs/symptoms: green yellow sputum, hot skin, fever, tachycardia and hypoxia.
What is a pulmonary edema and what are the signs and symptoms?
It is blood in the alveoli, caused by left sided CHF.
Signs/symptoms: JVD, rales bilateral, pinky frothy sputum, hypertension.
What is a tension pneumothorax and what are the signs and symptoms
It is a sucking chest wound allowing air to enter the pleural space.
Signs/symptoms: JVD, tracheal deviation, absent or diminished lung sounds on one side.
AMI(acute myocardial infarction)
It is the death of heart tissue causing a heart attack.
Signs/symptoms: crushing dull pain, left chest/ arm/neck/jaw/shoulder/back pain. Pain not relieved by medicine.
What are parts of acute coronary syndrome?
AMI(acute myocardial infarction)
Stable angina
Unstable angina
Left sided CHF
Left sided CHF is caused by the left side of the heart not being able to pump effectively. Leading to blood flowing back into pulimary veins into lungs.
Right sided CHF
Right side of heart fails to pump, blood backs up into SVC and IVC, presents JVD and edema in legs.
Becks triad
For cardiac tamponade which is when fluid builds up in sac around heart putting pressure on it.
Becks triad: JVD, hypotension, muffled heart sounds.
Cushings triad
Increased ICP(inter cranial pressure)
Hypertension in systolic
Bradycardia
Irregular slow respiration
Sympathetic nervous system
Eyes will dilate
Tachycardia
Lungs relax, RR up
Stomach and ingestion is off
Parasympathetic
Eyes will constrict
Bradycardia
Lungs constrict RR down
Stomach and digestion is on
