The Ministry of Justice are in charged of the NPS so they ensure strategies and procedures are in places which enable the Probation Service the ability to help offenders.
The NPS is government funded via taxes.
police
Both agencies work together in the management of an offender. This includes sharing information and attending meetings.
MAPPA: The police work with the probation and prison services, sharing information with other agencies to assess and manage violent and sexual offenders in order to protect the public from harm
Police will arrest a prisoner recalled while on probation and ensure return to prison
CPS
CPS will provide information on the offence to the NPS so that they can write the pre-sentence report.
CPS will be advised by the NPS on the suitability of an offender for bail.
Courts
Probation officers will attend the court and provide advice about any breaches.
Where there is a breach of a community/probation order, the offender may be returned to court for further sentencing and a possible prison sentence.
They may be called upon to prepare a pre-sentence report for the court, especially if the court is considering imposing a probation order. The judge or magistrate could order such a probation report.
The probation service may attend court to provide information about how the offender is progressing on a community order.
HM prison service
Overseeing all prisoners once released if on licence or parole
They may liaise with the prison when an offender is about to be released. They attend meetings in prison and provide prison governors with reports that help determine whether a prisoner should be released and under what conditions
Overseeing all prisoners who have served a sentence of up to two years, and released on licence for a minimum of 12 months

NACRO: Campaigned for an increase in the discharge payment (one off payment given when people leave prison) which is critical for people to buy the basics in the first few days after release. In Many 2021, the Government increased the Discharge Grant from £46 to £76 - the first time the payment had increase since 1996.
Trailblazers: Charity set up to mentor young offenders (18-25) with the primary objective of helping to reduce their re-offending. They provide weekly 1 to 1 mentoring both in prison and after release.
