Nov1 M2-Histology Eye Flashcards
1
Q
3 coats (tunics) of the eye
A
- fibrous tunic (sclera CT + cornea in the front bulging ant)
- vascular tunir or uvea (choroid CT all around + ciliary body above lens + iris ant to lens post to cornea)
- neural tunic (retina)
2
Q
aqueous humour is where in the eye
A
around the lens and behind the cornea
-is lymph like
3
Q
sclera charact
A
- dense regular CT like a tendon. whitish and stiff like a tendon
- collagen organized into layers
- covered by a thin conjunctiva
- poor in blood vessels
4
Q
choroid charact
A
- rich in pigment (melanocytes)
- rich in blood vessels
5
Q
sclera more charact
A
- covers 5/6 of eye post
- most of it = dense regular CT with intersecting collagen bundles
- melanocytes in deep layers
- attachment of eye muscles
- is white of the eye
- conjunctiva covering it = mucosa with loose CT and non keratinized squamous stratified epith
6
Q
cornea charact
A
- transparent
- avascular
- highly innervated
- bulges anteriorly
7
Q
details of cornea
A
ant to post
- stratified squamous epith
- thin Bowman’s membrane (CT that looks transparent bc type 1 collagen fibres not well organized). NO cells
- thick substantia propria (or stroma) (avascular CT). vascular in pathologies
- Descemet’s membrane BM of the epith posterior to it
- simple squamous epith (endothelium) (or posterior epith) = innermost layer of cornea
8
Q
contents of stroma of the cornea
A
- collagen fibres
- keratocytes (modified fibrocytes)
