What is a noun?
It is a word that indicates a person, place, or thing
Which are the three functions a noun can take in a sentance?
Subject, object, or predicate.
Subject
The person or thing, performing, or controlling the action of the verb.
Objects
It is the person or thing which receives the action.
Which are the three types of objects?
Direct, indirect, and object of a preposition
Direct object
The ones that receive the action of the verb in a sentence or clause
Indirect object
Person or thing who receives the direct object of the verb
Objects of a preposition
Nouns which are part of a prepositional phrase.
Predicate nouns
Nouns that follow linking verbs . They serve to rename or reidentify the subject.
In the oredicate nouns, what happens if the noun is accompanied by any direct modifier?
The entire noun phrase acts predicatively.
What is a common noun?
A noun that identifies general people, places, or things.
What is a proper noun?
Nouns that are used to identify an absolutely unique person, place, or thing. Names someone or something that is one of a kind. It is capitalized.
Which type of things are proper nouns?
Names of people, places, or events.
Brands.
Appellations, words added to a someone’s name.
Job titles and familial roles, as a noun of address
Concrete nouns
They name people, places, animals, or things that are ohysically tangible.
Abstract nouns
They name intangible things, such as concepts, ideas, feelings, characteristics, attributes, etc.
Are gerunds concrete or abstract?
They are abstract.
What is a countable noun?
Countable nouns are the ones that can be counted as individual units or separable items.
They can be counted with numbers.
We can use a/an with them.
We can use the plural form.
What is an uncountable noun?
Nouns which cannot be separated and counted as individual units or elements. They cannot take an indefinite article, nor can be made plural. They can be tangible or untangible things.
