Process may be served by
(i) a sheriff; or
(ii) any person over 18 years old who is not a party to the case.
Process is composed of:
both the complaint and summons being served together (in GDC there is no summons).
Once a Defendant has been served with process, they have ______________ days to file a responsive pleading.

The methods of service of process (listed in order of preference) are:
(i) Personal service;
(ii) Delivery to Family Member (16 y.o. & at usual place of residence);
(iii) Posting (“Nail and Mail”)
Virginia’s long-arm statute grants personal jurisdiction over
a Defendant who lives outside of Virginia.
If Plaintiff requests Defendant to waive service, and Defendant does so, then
Defendant will have an extension of 60 days to file a responsive pleading (90 days if located outside of Virginia).
If Plaintiff requests Defendant to waive service, and Defendant refuses, then
Plaintiff can recover from Defendant the costs of service.
