NOTDONEFemale Repro Physiology Flashcards
1
Q
What makes inhibin B, and what does it do?
A
Corpus luteum granulosa cells in the ovary.
Inhibit anterior pituitary FSH secretion.
2
Q
What do LH and FSH do in female gonads?
A
LH and FSH - oestrogen
LH only - progesterone
3
Q
Effects of oestrogen:
A
- Growth of ovarian follicles
- CYclical changes in endometrium
- Increased blood flow and contractility of uterus
- Increases uterus sensitivity to oxytocin
- Increased breast duct growth
4
Q
Describe oestrogen inhibition of FSH and LH
A
Oestrogen inhibits FSH.
At normal levels, oestrogen inhibits LH.
At high levels, oestrogen briefly increases LH levels.
5
Q
Effects of progesterone:
A
- Glandular changes of endometrium, cervix and vagina
- Prevents uterine contraction
- Stimulates lobule and alveoli development
- Supports lactation
- Stimulates thermogenesis and respiration
6
Q
Describe the feedback of progesterone
A
Inhibits LH
At large doses - prevents ovulation
