Normal Lab Values Flashcards
BUN
Normal = 8-25 mg/dl 6-8 = overhydration, SIADH, liver disease, malnutrition 20-50 = mild azotemia >50 = severe azotemia and renal impairment
Serum creatinine
Normal = .8-1.4
Children normally lower than women lower than men
BUN:Creatinine
Normal = 10:1 >20 = pre-, post-renal azotemia, some types of acute glomerular nephritis <20 = acute tubular nephritis, AIN
Urine Albumin:Creatinine
Normal = 30 mg/g
30-300 mg/g = microalbuminuria
>300 mg = albuminuria, clinical proteinuria
GFR (Creatinine clearance estimate)
Normal = 75-125 ml/min/1.73m^2 >50 = renal impairment 20-50 = renal insufficiency 5-20 = renal failure 15 - dialysis
Urine Sodium
Can use random sample
>20 = acute tubular nephrosis
<20 = anything else
Fractional Excretion of Sodium (FENa)
Can use random sample
>2 = acute tubular nephrosis
<1 = pre- /post-renal azotemia, indicates intact tubular function
May be very high for post-renal obstruction.
Urine Osmolality
Normal = 800-1,300 mOsm/L 600-800 = minimal impairment 400-600 = moderate impairment 500 Post = <400
Urine Specific Gravity
Normal = 1010
