14
Q
Myelosuppression (Bone marrow suppression)
A
- decrease in the production of blood cells, which may lead to low blood count
- causes fatigue, dizziness, SOB, pale skin
15
Q
Pancytopenia
A
-A lowering of all 3 types of blood cells (RBCs, WBC, Platelets) which may lead to low blood platelet and or low WBC count
16
Q
Anemia
A
- a decrease in the number of RBC which may leave to low RBC count
- causes: weakness, confusion, SOB, increase HR, headache
17
Q
Thrombocytopenia
A
- a decrease in the number of platelets which may lead to low platelet count
- causes: bleeding from nose, gums, mount, blood in urine/feces and small red dots on skin
18
Q
Neutropenia
A
- a decrease in the number of neutrophils, which may lead to low white blood cell count
- causes: fever, chills, infx, diarrhea, rashes
19
Q
Leukopenia
A
- a decrease in the total number of WBCs which may lead to low WBC count
- anemia, prolonged menstral period, fatigue, emotional, thrombocytopenia, pneumonia, infx
20
Q
Granulocytopenia
A
- a decrease in the number of granulocytes, which include neutrophils, basophils, and eosinophils, which may lead to low WBC count
- causes infx
21
Q
Skin puncture (capillary blood)
A
- Finger/earlobe; big toe/heel (peds)
- Skin is cleaned and dried, and punctured 2mm
- Blood is collected in micro tube or in a slide
- Apply pressure & band aid
22
Q
Veni puncture
A
- Anticubital vein used
- Palm up and tourniquet applied
- Patient makes a fist
- Skin is cleaned
- Needle inserted into vein and blood is collected in a Vacu container; remove tourniquet
- Pressure applied after needle is removed to avoid hematoma
- Bandaid
