Normal and Binomial Distribution Flashcards
What is normal distribution?
A suitable model to calculate probabilities if these conditions are met:
The data is continuous
The distribution is symmetrical and bell shaped
The mode median and mean are appproximately the same
How to calculate the number of standard deviations form the mean
Number of standard deviations from the mean= value-mean /standard deviation
What is a probability distribution?
A list of all the possible outcomes together with their probabilities
What is binomial distribution?
A suitable model to calculate probabilities if these conditions are met:
The number of trials are fixed
Trials are independent
There are two possible outcomes for each trial (success and failure)
Binominal distribution notation
B(n,p) to denote a binomial distribution with n= number of trials and p= probability of success (q= probability of failure)
Mean of binominal distribution
mean of B(n,p) is np
