Spleen transforms food into gu qi which is sent to the LU to mix with air (de qi) to form Zong qi (gathering qi), from there it mixes with Yuan qi (original qi) to from Zhen qi (true qi). Zhen qi has 2 forms: Ying qi (nutritive qi) which flows in the blood and channels. Wei qi (defensive qi) flows in the outer layers.
