What is a fetal non-stress test?
A nonstress test is a common prenatal test used to check on a baby’s health. During a nonstress test, also known as fetal heart rate monitoring, a baby’s heart rate is monitored to see how it responds to the baby’s movements.
Each FHR increase should last for__ seconds, and is recored for___ minutes.
15 secs, 20 min
Do we want this test to be reactive or non-reactive? why?
reactive= good (accelerations are present when baby moves) the baby has to be able to get his/her heart rate up and keep it up until it stops moving, or else , it won’t be able to withstand labor.
How is a non-stress test done?
- put the fetal heart monitor on her, and you give her a button.
everytime she feels the baby move, she is suppose to push that button (which will put a mark on the strip as baby movement)
