at the level of the uterus (because when you lower the baby, it’s gonna get a bolus of blood and will increase biliirubin levels)
and when you raise baby, and the placenta is still delivering, the baby can bleed out.
after the baby is dried, where do we place the baby?
on mommy’s abdomen and cover her (for skin to skin contact)
with a retained placenta, what am I worried about?
infection, but we are more worried about bleeding.

How is the cord cut?
double clamp it and then cut it (in the hospital), but not in the hospital (tie it off with the cleanest thing you can find)
what’s the distance we are suppose to tie the cord?
4 inches AND 8 inches from the umbilicus… we want to cut off circulation.
if you are far from the hospital, just cut and put something clean under it,
what do you do with the placenta? why?
wrap it in a bag and take it to the hospital; they will inspect it for intactness
what do some cultures do with the placenta?
what about the meconium?
- eat it
- burry in front of their favorite tree for good luck
- put it on their face
what do we do if the fundus becomes boggy?
massage it
