Q

What are the components of an EGS?

A

AMU approved cylinder charged with enough air to reach 1st decompression stop or surface for no D dives, 1st stage regulator set to manufacturers set pressure no lower than 135, pressure guage, and an intermediate whip or second stage regulator. If EGS is left topside, EGS pressure is set to 150 over bottom pressure. Whip length for top side EGS is 50-150 feet.

Q

What are the rules for correcting variations in rate of ascent?

A

If delay less than one minute, disregard. If more than a minute and deeper than 50FSW, add to bottom time and adjust table/schedule. If more than a minute and shallower than 50FSW, add delay to next decompression stop. If table and schedule adjustment causes you to have passed a decompression stop, add deeper decompression time to next stop. If ascent rate is exceeded, stop and wait for watches to catch up.
