Non Metals Flashcards
Define Element
A substance composed of atoms with the same number of protons
Define atom.
The smallest part of an element, composed of a nucleus of protons and neutrons and a cloud of electrons.
Define Compound.
Two or more elements chemically bonded together.
Define molecule.
A chemically bonded cluster of atoms, the smallest particle in compounds.
Define Atomic Number.
The number of protons in the nuclei of a particular element.
The elements are listed in the Periodic table according to their atomic number.
Give the chemical Symbol and 3 elemental forms of Carbon
C, charcoal, graphite, diamond,
Give the chemical Symbol, for Sulphur, Phosphorous, Uranium
S, P, U
Define Solid
The state of matter with the lowest energy, where the particles of a substance are bound together.
Constant shape, constant volume.
Define Liquid
The state of matter where particles have enough internal energy to not bound in a structure but not break free from each other.
Constant volume, variable shape
Define Gas
The state of matter where particles have enough kinetic energy that they are completely free from each other.
Variable volume, variable shape
Define Plasma
The state of matter which is a gas with ionized particles.
