Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma Flashcards
Follicular Lymphoma
Neoplastic B-cells make follicle-like nodules. Derives from germinal center.
t(14;18) –> overexpression of BCL-2 –> inhibits apoptosis.
Generalized LAD: lymph nodes contain LOTS of follicles.
Mantle Cell Lymphoma
B=cells that expand in the mantle zone.
Associated with chronic inflammatory states
t(11;14) –> translocation of cyclin D1 –> overexpression –> increased G1/S phase transition.
Marginal Zone Lymphoma
Associated with H. pylori and chronic inflammatory states.
Often presents as low-grade malignant lymphoma of the stomach.
Burkitt Lymphoma
Associated with Epistein Barr Virus.
African: jaw Sporadic: abdomen
t(8;14) –> overexpression of c-myc –> increased cell growth.
High mitotic/death rate –> “starry sky” appearance (dead cell are eaten away by macrophages).
Diffuse Large B-cell Lymphoma
Enlarging lymph nodes, GI tract mass or brain mass.
Can arise sporatically or from follicular lymphoma.
