Hodgkin's Lymphoma Flashcards
Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
Reed-Sternberg cells; CD15/30 (+)
-2 mirror image nuclei (“owl eyes”), each with an eosinophilic nucleolus, surrounded by a clear halo; of B-cell origin.
The RS cells secrete cytokines, leading to fever, weight loss, night sweats and itching.
Nodular Sclerosis HL
Fibrous thickening of anterior mediastinal and either cervical or supraclavicular lymph nodes.
Lacunar type RS cells seen: RS cell in big spaces.
Excellent prognosis
Lymphocyte-rich HL
Lots of lymphocytic and histiocytic (“popcorn”) cells are present. These cells are CD19/20 (+), but CD 15/30 (-)
Good prognosis
Lymphocyte-depleted HL
Worst prognosis
Mixed-cellularity HL
Abundant eosinophils due to IL-5. Associated with Epstein Barr Virus
