What is a benign tumour
Grows slowly
Doesn’t invade other parts of the body
Easy to remove because of membrane
What is a cancerous cell
During mitosis, the cell divides uncontrollably. These cells form a tumour.
Undifferentiated and so do not carry out their normal function.
What is a malignant tumour
Grows quickly
Invades other parts of the body
Can form secondary tumours (metastasis)
What are carcinogens
Chemicals and other agents that cause cancer.
Lifestyle factors that increase risk of cancer
Ultraviolet Ionising radiation
Diet
Alcohol
Viruses
Chemical carcinogens in Cigarette smoke
What is a correlation
Relationship between data sets where if one changes the other is expected to as well.
Causation
Makes something happen.
What is a non communicable disease
Are not spread from person to person
Caused by risk factors
