A disease that cannot be spread
What is a communicable disease?
A disease that can be spread.
What is an example of a non communicable disease?
HIV, diabetes
What is an example of a communicable disease?
Common cold, flu.
What risk factors are there that someone will develop a disease?
Aspects of someone’s lifestyle e.g lack of exercise.
What is a disease of the heart?
Coronary heart disease.
What is coronary heart disease?
It is where layers of fatty material builds up inside the coronary arteries and narrow them.
Treatment for coronary heart disease includes?
Stents and statins.
What are stents used for?
To keep the coronary arteries open
What are statins used for?
To reduce blood cholesterol levels and slow down the rate at which fatty materials build up.
What can faulty valves be replaced with?
They can be replaced with a biological or a mechanical valve
What are the two main types of tumors?
Benign and malignant.
What is a benign tumor?
Tumors that do not spread around the body.
