Passing tones
PT- a non chord note that joins 2 chord tones that are a third apart (stepping)
chromatic passing tone (chr. PT)- unaccented. fills in the space of a whole step
accented passing tone (APT)- the passing tone falls on the strong beat or stronger part of the beat. the note it steps to is a chord tone.
Neighbour tones
NT- a non chord note that is one step higher or lower than the chord tone, and returns to the same chord tone.
ANT- accented neighbour tone- nt occurs on a stronger beat.
Changing notes
CN also known as double neighbours. step away from the chord tone, skip in opposite direction, and step back to the chord tone.

Incomplete neighbour
IN - weak beat, neighbour to only 1 chord tone
NTs move by step, but IN arrives by step and leaves by leap, or arrives by leap and leaves by step.
Echappee
Ech- an incomplete neighbour that arrives by stepand leaves by leap in opposite direction.
