Q

What are the 3 instances in which the nominative case is used?

A

1) To speak about the person or the thing performing an action or being in a state (ex: ребёнок спит)
2) To define the person or thing or refer them to a certain group of people or things (ex: Иван - студент.)
3) To designate the person or thing on which the action is directed in a passive voice (ex: Дом построен специалистам- The house is built by specialists). The object takes the nominative case and the subject doing the action takes the instrumental case.
