What is noise?
This an unplanned interference to the communication cycle.
What is a a sender?
This is an individual or organizations that initiate communication.
•they have an idea to share.
•they are the origionater.
What are the roles of a sender?
To ensure that the message is in a form that can be easily understood by the receiver.
•to select a channel that is appropriate
(easily accessible to the receiver)
What is a receiver?
The person or organization for which the message is intended.
•target audience
What are the roles of a receiver?
•to position oneself in a manner that allows you to receive the message.
•to decode messages i.e to interpret or understand messages.
•to provide feedback.
Define channel of communication.
•the means through which a message is sent.
It is a tool or gadget that one uses to send a message eg face to face, WhatsApp phone call or video call.
What are the factors to consider when selecting the appropriate form of communication?
•cost
•distance
•level of confidentiality
•urgency
•status
•technology available
•language
•nature of the message
•size of the audience
Define feedback
Any form of response given to a message.
What are the roles of feedback?
•It helps us to complete the communication process/cycle.
•It shows courtesy.
•It also indicates that the message was received.
•It is the basis upon which the sender can measure whether or not the message was understood.
Define Channel Noise
It is the interference with the message that happens as a result of channel or medium of communication used.
Define semantic noise
This is the noise that is within the message itself e.g mispellings, grammatical errors etc.
Define a Barrier
Any blockage in the communication process.
Anything that hinders one from sending or receiving a message

These have to do with personal attitudes towards the sender or receiver of the message.

Refers to having too much information.
In the sense of:

•bulkiness of the message

Define written communication
This is communication that is conveyed through written symbols e g text messages,letters,memos,emails etc

•it is used to formalize decisions
•it is detailed (the message has to be complete)
