Indications: frequent ABG’s, arterial BP monitoring

Complications:
- infection (colonized w/staph in 24hrs)
remove in 1st week (risk increased at 10-14d)
higher risk in VLBW, hyperalimentaion through UAC
- vascular spasm
- thrombogenesis
- hypoglycemia if give high glucose fluid and line ends in thoracic aorta&raquo_space; hyperinsulinemic response
