NICS 001 Flashcards
What is a Computer?
It was used as a term for a job where people would do calculations all day. But now refers to anything that does calculations like a server or PC.
What is Hardware?
It is the physical components that make things run or work. This can be things like a GPU or PSU.
What is a Motherboard?
It is the centre of everything. This is what every other piece will be connected to.
What is a Central Processing Unit?
It takes instructions and understands them to then make the necessary actions for said instruction.
What is a Graphics Processing Unit?
It is basically a CPU but with more cores and lower clock speed. This is used for playing games and other things that need lots of particles or shadows.
What is Hard Disk/Solid State Drives?
They are used to store data in a non-volatile way (safe when the power goes out).
What is Random Access Memory?
It is used to store data in a fast but volatile way (power loss will lose the data).
What is a Power Supply Unit?
It is used to give power to the other components safely.
What is a Peripheral?
It is anything that is around a computer. This includes things like a mouse or monitor.
