Q

EoA/PoD:
Wealth
by Ng Eng Teng

A

-Simplified geometric forms

-Retains the essence of the human form, with some parts more detailed than others

-Gold

-Generally smooth texture

-Top of the head has wavy lines etched into it, leading to the face

-Contrast between the more textured parts of the sculpture and the smooth parts of the sculpture, as well as the framing, creates emphasis on the face and upper part of the body.

-Focal point placed further on the face due to leading lines created by the form and lines from the crown of the head

-Movement and rhythm created by the curve of the sculpture and the lines on the top of the head, which eventually lead to the face

-Asymmetrical balance

-Repetition of lines and repetition of cylindrical forms

Main Idea Expressed:
Batak Girl
by Ng Eng Teng

A

-Female figure is largely simplified in this sculpture, generally reduced to geometric shapes and forms

-Flat plains are used for the clothes.

-The face is sculpted in detail

-Grey

-Rough in texture (due to technique employed)

-Contrast between the face and the rest of the body-> difference in the level of detail

-Asymmetrical balance as a whole-> three circular forms on the top of the head

-Symmetrical balance when you look purely at the bust

-Emphasis due to contrast and the sculpture’s nature as portraiture, emphasis is placed on the face
