EoA/PoD:
Portrait of Eugene Chen
by Georgette Chen
Earthly colours and on the whole, the painting looks dull.
Frowning, eyes are looking elsewhere-> deep in thought.
Dark clothes, neat hair and round rim spectacles-> prim and proper look, representing his stern character.
Posed with a book and round rim spectacles-> knowledgeable and intellectual, educated
Sitting on an old bamboo chair, common in every household at that time+ sitting on the **edge of the chair*, not in an unnatural position-> seems more personal
Scarf+ sitting position+ clothes-> introvert, a humble and serious person
WALL (BACKGROUND):
Wall in background has clear, vertical strokes (not like real wall)+ colour contrasts well with chair
CHAIR:
Colour of chair is more vibrant, but does not outshine Eugene Chen+ clean lines+ some attention to detail, but not as thorough as on Eugene Chen-> Eugene Chen is EMPHASISED
EUGENE CHEN:
Grainy and spotty texture, clear diff. between wall and EUCHEN
Great attention to detail (e.g. creases of clothes, wrinkles on face, veins on hand, overall lighting and shadows)
Darker colour scheme, but cohesive and has some colours in common with certain sections
SUBJ MATTER IS CLEARLY ESTABLISHED
