Newtons Laws of Motion Flashcards
Question (Front)
Answer (Back)
What is Newton’s First Law in simple words?
An object stays still or keeps moving at the same speed unless something (a force) makes it change.
What is another name for Newton’s First Law?
The Law of Inertia.
What does inertia mean?
Inertia means objects don’t want to change how they’re moving.
How is mass related to inertia?
The heavier something is, the harder it is to change how it moves (more inertia).
What is Newton’s Second Law in simple words?
Force makes things speed up or slow down. The bigger the force, the faster the change. Formula: F = ma.
What happens if you push something with more force?
It accelerates faster, unless it’s really heavy.
How does mass affect acceleration?
Heavier objects need more force to move or stop compared to lighter ones.
What is Newton’s Third Law in simple words?
Every action has an opposite reaction. If you push something, it pushes you back with the same force.
Can you give an example of Newton’s Third Law?
When you jump, your feet push the ground, and the ground pushes you up into the air.
How does friction affect movement?
Friction slows things down. It’s like a force that resists motion.
What unit is used to measure force?
Newtons (N). One Newton is the force needed to move 1 kg at 1 m/s².
What is the net force if nothing is moving?
The net force is zero. No movement happens if forces cancel each other out.
What happens if the net force on an object is zero?
The object will stay still or keep moving at the same speed (no acceleration).
What is gravity according to Newton’s laws?
Gravity is a force that pulls objects down to Earth and causes acceleration towards the ground.
