Energy, Work and Power Flashcards
What is the formula for work done?
Work done = Force (in N) × Distance moved in the direction of force (in m).
What are the units of work done?
Joules (J).
What is 1 joule equivalent to?
1 joule is the work done when a force of 1 newton moves through 1 meter in the direction of the force.
What is the work done if a force of 300N moves an object 8m?
Work done = 300 N × 8 m = 2400 J.
What is the force formula when lifting an object?
Force = mass (kg) × acceleration (m/s²), typically F = m x g
How much work is done if an object of 900kg is moved up 100m by a crane?
Work done = 9000 N × 100 m = 900,000 or 900 kJ
What is energy in relation to work?
Energy is the ability to do work.
What is the relationship between work and energy?
Work done = energy transformed; both are measured in joules (J).
What is power?
Power is the rate of doing work or transforming energy.
How do you calculate power?
Power (in watts) = Work done (in joules) / Time taken (in seconds).
What is the work done by a 40N cat that climbs a 15m tree?
Work done = 40 N × 15 m = 600 J.
What is the cat’s power if it climbs in 10 seconds?
Power = 600 J / 10 s = 60 W.
What is the power of Oliver, who weighs 600N, if he climbs a 3m flight of stairs in 4 seconds?
Power = (600 N × 3 m) / 4 s = 450 W
What is gravitational potential energy (GPE)?
GPE = mass (kg) × gravitational field strength (g) × height (m).
