Q

Explain the force and acceleration experiment?

A

1)Put air track on a bench with bench pulley at end and two light gates above the track
2)Cut an interrupt card and attach to air track glider
3)Connect glider to hanging mass by string length of the air track over bench pulley
4)Make sure everything is level
5)Set data logging software to calculate acceleration
6)Release glider and record weight and acceleration
7)Repeat removing one weight each time

Q

What is terminal velocity?

A

Any object falling through a fluid reaches a point when it moves at a steady speed in a constant direction because the resultant force is zero

Q

Explain what happens when a car brakes

A

-Force is applied to the brakes
-Work is done by friction between the brakes and wheel
-Reducing kinetic energy of the vehicle
-Slowing it down causing temperature of brakes to increase

Q

Why why travelling at high speeds affect braking distance

A

-Greater braking force produces greater accelerations.
-Large decelerations cause breaks to overheat and driver may loose control
