Newtons Laws Flashcards
Force
A push or a pull exerted on an object in order to change the motion of the object.
motion
a change in position over time.
Net force
the combination of all the forces acting on an object
speed
distance traveled per rate of time.
velocity
the speed and direction of an object.
acceleration
the rate at which velocity changes over time
Newtons first law
an object at rest will remain at rest and an object in motion will stay in motion unless acted upon an outside force.
newtons second law
force=mass times acceleration
Newtons third law
for every action there is an equal but opposite reaction
inertia
the tendancy of an object to resist being moved or, if the object is moving, to resist a change in speed or direction untill an outside force acts on the object.
friction
a force that resists motion
mass
the amount of matter in an object
Gravity
an attractive force that exists between all objects that have mass
