Newtons Law Flashcards
What is newtons 1st law of motion?
An object remains in the same state of motion unless a resultant force acts on it
What does it mean if the resultant force on an object is zero?
- a stationary object stays stationary
- a moving object continues to move at the same velocity
What’s terminal velocity mean?
The maximum speed of an object
What does uniform motion mean?
Constant velocity
Give an example of non-uniform motion
When the speed, direction or both change
What’s Newton’s second law?
The acceleration of an object increases, the resultant force increases , and decreases if the mass of the object increases
Give the formula for resultant force
Mass X acceleration
What is inertial mass?
The ratio force over acceleration- how difficult it is to change the velocity of an object
Give the aim of the practical- investigating force, mass and acceleration
To investigate the relationship between the force, mass and acceleration by varying the masses added to trolleys
Give the hazards for the practical
Electrical appliance( air blower)
Mass and glider falling on the floor( bruise, fracture)
What’s Newton’s third law?
Whenever two objects interact, they exert equal and opposite forces on each other
What does non-contact forces mean?
The push or pull acting between objects that are not physically touching when they interact
Give an example of a non-contact force
Earth and satellites — earth pulls the satellite, the satellite pulls the earth
Give the formula for weight
Mass X gravitational field strength
W= mg
