Newton's Second Law Flashcards
Describe how objects move when there is a net force acting on them
Objects accelerate in the direction of the net force, in direct proportion to the net force, and in inverse proportion to mass
State Newton’s Second Law in terms of how force, mass, and acceleration are related
Acceleration is directly proportional to net force and inversely proportional to mass
What is Friction?
A force that acts between surfaces in contact that resists motion between the objects
What is Kinetic Friction?
A constant force that acts to resist the motion of objects in contact with each other that are moving with respect to each other
What is Static Friction?
It acts between surfaces that are not moving with respect to each other, and it builds in response to applied force. It resists the start of motion, up to a maximum amount
