Newton's Laws Of Motion Flashcards
What is newton’s first law?
If the resultant force acting on an object is zero, then it’s acceleration will be zero
What is newton’s second law?
An object will accelerate if there is a resultant force acting upon it
The acceleration of the object is:
Proportional to the resultant force acting on it
Inversely proportional to its mass
F=ma
F=resultant force
Mass=kg, inertial mass
What is inertia?
The tendency of an object to remain at rest or at constant velocity
What is newton’s third law?
When an object exerts a force on another object, the second object will exert an equal and opposite force on the first. Both forces must be of the SAME TYPE
What pairs can’t be the same time?
Non Contact and contact forces
What is used for the practical?
Trolley, data logger, light gate, pulley and some masses
What is equation used for the practical?
Average velocity=length of flag/time
Whare the dependent, independent and control variables?
Dependent=1. Acceleration 2.acceleration
Independent=1. Resultant force 2. Mass
Control variable=1. Mass 2. Resultant force
