Newton's Laws Of Motion Flashcards
Newton’s first law of motion states…
A resultant force is required to change the motion of an object
Newton’s law of motion concept
- stationary object has a zero resultant force it will continue to stay still
- if a moving object has a zero resultant force it will carry on moving at the same velocity
Newton’s second law of motion states
If Non zero resultant acts on an object, then it will cause the object to accelerate
Newton’s second law of motion concept
If one force applied on an object is unequal to the opposite force, the object will move
Acceleration
Change in velocity over change in time
Velocity
Depends on speed or direction
Part two of Newton’s second law of motion
The size of the resultant force is always directly proportional to the acceleration it causes
Equation for the second part of Newton’s second law of motion
F = ma
F is force
M is mass
A is acceleration
Newton’s third law of motion states and concept
‘Every action has an equal and opposite reaction’
Whenever two objects interact, they exert equal and opposite forces on each other
