Intro To Forces Flashcards
Push
A type of force
Pull
Type of force opposite to push
Contact force
A force that acts when an object is in contact with a surface - I.e air/water
Friction
Resist movement because of contact between forces
Air resistance
Force on an object moving through the air that causes it to slow down
-aka drag
Non contact force
- acts with/between objects, not in contact
- Magnetic, electrostatic, gravitational forces
Interaction pair
When two object interact with each other there is a force on each one that is the same size but in opposing directions
Newton
Unit of force
Symbol N
Newtonmeters
Piece of equipment used to measure weight in Newton’s
Gravity
A non contact force
Acts between two masses
Force arrows
Shows direction/ size of force
Must touch the object
Support force
Contact force
Eg upthrust
Example of an interaction pair
Gravity and support force
