Newton's Laws Flashcards
1
Q
Newton’s First Law
A
If there is no resultant force acting upon an object, if it is at rest it will stay at rest, if it is moving it will keep moving at a constant velocity
2
Q
Newton’s Second Law
A
F=ma The rate of change of momentum is directly proportional to the resultant force acting on it.
3
Q
Newton’s Third Law
A
If object A exerts a force on object B, then B exerts an equal but opposite force on A.
4
Q
Newtons’ Third Law Pairs
A
Object A exerts a downward force on B.
Third law pair = Object B exerts an upwards force on A
5
Q
Identifying Newton’s Third Law Pair
A
- Has the same magnitude
- Acts along the same line but, in different directions
- Acts at the same time
- Acts on different objects
- Is the same type of force
- Can be identified by changing the words around
