Newton's Law of Motion Vocabulary Flashcards
Force
A push or pull exerted on an object to change the motion of an object.
Motion
a change i position over time.
Net Force
The combination of all the force acting on a object.
Speed
Distance traveled per rate of time.
speed=time/distance
Velocity
The speed and direction of an object.
Acceleration
The rate at velocity change over time.
Newton’s First Law
An object at rest will remain at the rest and object in motion will remain in motion unless acted upon outside force.
Newton’s Second Law
Force=mass x acceleration.
Newton’s Third law
For every action there is equal but opposite reaction.
Interia
The tendency of an object to resist being moved or, if the object is moving, to resist a change in speed or direction until an outside force acts on the object.
Friction
A force that resists motion.
Mass
The amount of matter in an object.
Gravity
An attractive force that exists between all objects that have mass.
