What is traditional media?
Media products that process information one-way to large mass audiences, such as terrestrial television; little choice.
What is new media?
Digital technology: social media; digital/satellite and smart television; computer games; apps, etc.

How new media is computer based, e.g iPads laptops.
Lister et al: What is Interactivity?
How consumers engage/interact, customising viewing if they wish e.g comments, phone-ins, etc.
Lister et al: What is Virtuality?
The way that people can immerse themselves into an unreal interactive world e.g virtual reality, META, sims 4.
What does Jenkins argue about interactivity?
Interactivity has led to a participatory culture where consumers contribute to the content e.g Wikipedia, twitter, etc. This also leads to a collective intelligence, which builds on existing intelligence, where we share our knowledge/skills.
What do Dutton and Blank argue?
There is a digital underclass: those who cannot access the new media.
What is the digital divide?
Age, Class, Gender, Global. E.g: UK, India, USA top internet usage in world, 16-24 more likely to spend time online, men x3 more likely to watch online videos than women.
What are the effects of New Media?
Loss of audiences (no longer reading print), synergy, convergence, the rise of Churnalism (misinformation/fake news), infotainment (soft news), citizen journalism etc.
