Q

What is the fundamental equation at work in the family

A

The fundamental equation at work in the family is that we as parents provide the children with FOOD, CLOTHING, and SHELTER on the one hand, and the children on the other hand SET VERY HIGH STANDARDS for themselves, WORK THEIR BUTT OUT 24 HOURS a DAY, and hopefully attain very high grades – all A’s

If other than a medical reason (such as an out of control thyroid) the children are NOT living upto their part of the equation then the parents part of the equation can also change. e.g. then the children will have to earn for themselves and will also have to pay a rent to live in the house, buy their own clothes, pay for their own food, etc – it is only fair that the equation is held when the children are fully and completely working on it from their side

Q

What is one important derivative from grades about you?

A

When you get poor grades it is generally not because you performed poorly in the fnal test once, but rather In one sense your grades are a reflection of the sum total of choices you made on a daily basis over an extended length of time, such as the semester.

Similarly, if you have been caught with DWI it is not that you just had too much to drink that day, but more likely it is a reflection of poor choices that you have been making over an extended period of time.
