Neurovascular Anatomy, Cerebral Aneurysms and Basic Stroke Syndromes Flashcards
Main blood vessels of the brain
Internal carotid arteries Vertebral arteries Basilar artery Anterior cerebral arteries Middle cerebral arteries Posterior cerebral arteries Anterior communicating artery Posterior communicating arteries
Function of internal carotid arteries
Give off branches;
Ophthalmic artery which supplies structures of the orbit
Posterior communicating artery which acts as an anastomotic communicating vessel in Circle of Willis
Anterior cerebral artery which supplies part of the cerebellum
Function of vertebral arteries
Give off branches;
Meningeal branch supplies falx cerebella
Anterior and posterior spinal arteries supply the spinal cord
Posterior inferior cerebellar artery supplies cerebellum
Function of basilar artery
Supplies cerebellum and pons
Function of anterior cerebral arteries
Supply anteromedial portion of the cerebellum
Function of middle cerebral arteries
Supply majority of the lateral part of the brain
Function of posterior cerebral arteries
Supply both the medial and lateral parts of the posterior cerebrum
Right middle cerebral artery supplies
left body strength and sensation
Left middle cerebral artery supplies
right body strength and sensation
Right posterior cerebral artery supplies
perception of left visual field
Left posterior cerebral artery supplies
perception of right visual field
