Neurotransmitters Flashcards
Dopamine
Location: Substantia Nigra
Function: Movement, attention, learning
Less Dopamine - Parkinson’s Disease
More Dopamine - Schizophrenia
Acetylcholine
Location: ANS, neuromuscular junctures - usually between motor neurons and muscle cells
Function: Attention, learning, muscle action, memory
Interference may cause paralysis - related to hunting animals
Endorphins
Function: Reduce pain, increase positive sensations - similar to effects of morphine and opium

e.g. Serotonin for depression
Antagonist (in medicine)
Chemical Substance that inhibits the impact of a neurotransmitter at a receptor site
