Neurophysiology - L7 Flashcards
Modality within the Touch Sensors (4)
Meissner’s Corpuscle - Fast adapting, small area
Merkels Disc - slow adapting small area
Ruffini Ending -Large area, slow adapting
Pacinian Corpuscle - Large Area Very rapid Adapting
Location Dependence of Specificity of Signal for touch.
As you move away from the finger tips the specificity goes down. You can feel for specifically on finger
Dorsal colmn-medial lemniscal
pathway for touch and location sensation. It is a projection system. That maps on to the brain.
The First Second and Third order neuron pathway for touch
Dorsal Column pathway is the first oder which ascends the spine. The secondary is the dorsal column nuclei, and then the third order is the thalamic nuerons that do the projecting.
Lateral Inhibition
Mechanism to mediate divergence of somatic stimulation. After first hit by touch it will send colateral signals to inhibit immediate neighbors so the brain knows specific spot
Topographic Representation
In the brain the signals of touch will go to a certain locations in the brain. The more specific the ability to discern location the larger part of brain it is.
Temperature Sensing Fibers
Warm and Cold fibers exist. Warm are unmyelinated and slow. The cold is quick.. Brain will receive from both of these at same time to discern slight changes.
